Well, the weather outside is frightful but the fire is so delightful…
And since we’ve got no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow…
Step inside our Kentucky cabin, and you’ll see Big Blue hydrangeas in honor of Kentucky Wildcat Basketball…
Climb the stenciled stairs to the loft where my office is decorated with tiny white lights…
Everywhere are ornaments we’ve had since our boys were born. They’re no longer shiny but beloved! We have one tiny tree by the stairs, another on the porch, and one near the hearth…
One of my favorite things to decorate is the china cabinet that’s been in our family for several generations…
A bird’s eye view from the loft on a cozy almost Christmas Eve. With a warm fire, a reading chair, a cup of cocoa or tea, I don’t want to come out till spring!
Praying for you and your loved ones this Christmas.
Thanks for sharing pictures of your “snuggly’ cabin. Would love to curl up with a book and a cup of spice tea in this beautifully decorated home. I can see why you don’t want to come out until Spring. Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas.
Amy, Snuggly is the perfect word! I’m reading these comments as a cold wind blows by the hearth. Bliss! Lots to do but thankful for the moments of quiet. And I’m thankful for you. You are always such a bright spot. Till next time! 🙂
Laura, I absolutely loved the tour of your beautiful cabin. So many words came to mind when I was touring. Cozy, homey, inviting, delicious, and Kentucky. Of course there are more but you get the gist. I’ve been a little off track but this put me back to a better place. I’m fully anticipating God’s greatest Gift. I wish for you and yours a most blessed Christmas.
Linda, You so inspire me! Thank you for taking time to ‘visit’ here. Me and this old cabin are better for it! You should see something on your end soon, too, from my antique desk. I pray this story holds special meaning for you. Love how you say you’re anticipating God’s greatest gift. Me, too. Love your beautiful attitude. God bless you and your precious family!
I so love old photographs. (Kentucky ancestors?) You have them arranged beautifully over another favorite of mine- china! I love your cozy cabin. Merry Christmas! Counting down the days until The Lacemaker is out!
SO happy to celebrate this release with you, Hannah! I always think of you and Andrea in the same breath :). But you’re probably okay with that! I can only imagine the incredible things coming out of your kitchens this time of year. Thanks for enriching me in so many ways. Till The Lacemaker :)!

I’m not sure I’d come out in Spring, except to smell the flowers. Thanks for sharing your lovely home Laura! Nothing like Kentucky in the wintertime or any time at all. Blessings to you and yours this wonderful Christmas season.
Rita, So happy you’re one of the winners! You’ve certainly been a blessing to me. I just wish I could have you and others over to the Christmas cabin:) Will email you soon about your book!
How beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Bless you for being here, Karen – your presence is a gift!

Diana, So happy you want to read on! A book a year for you through 2022! Bless you for being such a faithful reading friend!
Thank you, Laura. I love that you share your cabin with us. It is homey and peaceful there, I imagine. Merry Christmas to you & yours. Many blessings in the year to come.
Karen, What a blessing you are. That’s the best thing about books as that they are the bridge for reading friendships. So appreciate you and your being here. Thank you and merry Christmas to you and yours!
A blessed Christmas to you and your family, Laura, Eagerly looking forward to reading “The Lacemaker”.
Thanks so much for your kind words, Phyllis. I hope this new novel is your favorite of mine yet. God bless you richly!
HI Laura … thanks for sharing your Kentucky nest with us! Delightful, and I can see why you would be happy to stay there without budging for the whole winter. I would love to borrow one of your mentioned ideas … having smaller trees in different rooms! My offspring, with whom I had shared this large house, have moved on to their own nest, and I couldn’t face trying to do the usual two big trees this year. Had almost given up thoughts of doing trees this year. But, now I can!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your wonderful books, your wonderful ideas and your wonderful spirit! God’s Blessings to you and yours …
Oh, I’m smiling as I write this, Clyde, imagining you decorating small trees like we do :). Truly amazing how even the smallest tree lights up an entire space and gives such comforting, beautiful light. You are an empty nester, truly, and we will be soon, too. I’m so grateful for all your encouragement and support. Thank you for being such a delight to know!
Love your cozy cabin ❤️. Cabins bring back fond memories for me of my childhood as we tried to take a mountain trip every fall to celebrate my Mom’s birthday. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas! Love and God bless 💛
Love those precious memories, Stacey. <3. I'm remembering the wonderful times, too, as my mom's health fails. I never realized how much my mother meant to me till we could no longer do the things we once did. But oh, the wonderful times we had. I know you can say the same. You're always close in spirit. God bless you and your precious family today!
Such a delight to share your your inviting cabin on our first cold winter day. Thank you, dear Laura, for sharing it with your readers. I wonder if you always leave your windows uncovered? I guess since ours are so poorly insulated, just peeking at the snow through yours looks cold. I love that you have stenciled words on your walls, and the china cabinet ~ lovely, ornaments precious. Your hydrangeas look like blue poinsettias!
And i can’t tell you how excited I am to here of the new books ~ through 2022! color me grateful.
Merry Christmas to you and yours, with love from Ed and I.
Mary Kay, Bless you for stopping! I had to rein myself in by now posting too many cabin pics but feel I’ve left out some! As for insulation, this cabin doesn’t have much. In fact, I’m typing this by the fire and like those early settlers once said of their hearths and cabins, the front of me is toasty but the backside is freezing! Which reminds me that this cabin was built originally as a writing retreat and not meant to be lived in year round. I hope you and your real life hero have the best Christmas yet. I know your son will in his new place – can’t recall if it’s his first Christmas there or maybe their second! Blessings on you as we end one year and begin another, dear friend!
Laura,
Sending best wishes for a Blessed Christmas to you and your loved ones We’ve corresponded in the past, especially about Williamsburg and I can’t wait to read “The Lacemaker” and all the future books that will be coming out! May God continue to inspire you!
Dear Gail, Love your gracious spirit! I hope you feel beautifully planted in Williamsburg when you read Lady Elisabeth’s story. A recent reviewer said it has the lovely feel of a Regency set in Georgian times which I found interesting. It is quite a departure from the raw frontier! Thank you for making it easy to write these books. You are a true blessing!
I’m on my way!!!
I’ll bring the cheesecake, the chocolate paté, maybe some whipped shortbread, hmmm…taps chin….what else? OH!!! I know, Canadian chocolate!
Oh, you’re Canadian chocolate is to die for! In fact, my first responder son and I were discussing the merits of European chocolate over American as I sent him a birthday box with Lindt recently. But I’ll take that Cadbury fruit and nut any old day! 🙂
Have you had snow already in Kentucky this year? We’re still waiting. After so many Chicago winters, my husband and boys are convinced that Southwest Missouri never gets snow. Anyway, I’ve never been one of those people who was ever interested in log cabin living, but all the pictures you post have begun to change my mind. I see now why so many people dream about it. What a lovely place to write (and READ!)
Dear Stephanie, Wishing us both some snow! None here yet. My brother’s boys grew up in South America and were almost grown before they experienced an Ohio winter. Magical! As for log cabins are quirky places and not for everyone. My mom is not a fan as she says they’re too dark! But like you said, they are perfect for reading and writing. In fact, ours was built originally as a writing retreat:)
I just love seeing all the photos of your cozy and Christmasy cabin! Everything is just beautiful. I love the nostalgic ornaments and China cabinet. Those are the things that make a house a home, besides all the love inside!
Dear Carla, You’ve been on my mind so much! I actually would love to spend a winter in your beautiful Victorian! Kind of like house swap lol. But I think you’d get the drafty, rustic end of the bargain! I can’t tell you how much I enjoy pics of your home in the snow. I just know there’s a story behind you and that house. I’d love to hear it one day. Thank you for bringing in the season here with me. Hugs and love to you and yours!
Thank you so much, Laura, perhaps there is! A house swap sounds great! I don’t mind a little chilly as it has taken a little time to draft proof our old house. My huz is good at keeping it toasty, and a little fireplace heater in my writing room warms it up nicely. Love & hugs!
You and I are truly kindred spirits! Our cabin is so drafty that I rely on little woodstove-looking heaters, too, especially when I write. 🙂 Love and hugs right back to you!!
Your log cabin is gorgeous! We’ve always dreamed of living in one, way up in the mountains of NC or TN or somewhere. 🙂
As I unwrapped each ornament this year, I realized almost every one has a special memory attached to it.
Your blue Poinsettias are lovely! I usually buy a red one but that blue would match in our new home.
I can’t wait to read The Lacemaker! The cover sure is stunning.
Thanks for sharing your beautiful home. I would be hard pressed to come out at all!
Merry Christmas, Laura!
Dear Anne, Your new home sounds lovely! I’m moving toward blue, too :). It’s supposed to evoke calm and peace, or so I’ve heard, which makes me like blue all the more. Thank you for the cover kudos. Revell would be pleased by that. It just struck me that it’s my first cover without a woman on the front, at least one you can see! I hope you enjoy the story as much as I did writing it. This one’s quite romantic, unlike Moonbow! You’re always a bright spot and it’s a joy to celebrate the holidays with you here. I pray/hope you and your loved ones have an overflowingly blessed holiday!
Thank you Laura
Love the “tour” of the cabin. There’s nothing like heirloom Christmas ornaments. My sister and I have ornaments for every year of our lives since birth. Our mom started the tradition and with our mamaw’s help dad has continued it.
Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Love that you treasure those heirloom ornaments, too, Carissa. My birth stocking as I call it, is just about see through it’s so old and thin! But I do treasure it. Thinking of you and so thankful for you!
Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us! I pray blessings abound in the lives of you and your loved ones this Christmas. I truly hope to see you again soon. Love…Mandy💜
Dear Mandy, Thank you for your precious comments and more! It’s a joy to end another year with you and then welcome another – and a new book! God bless you and your loved ones this busy month, my friend!
I love this! So beautifully inviting!
Welcome, dear Tam! This is exactly how I feel when at your house – yours is such an oasis, a haven of beauty and tranquility and elegance. Thank you, thank you!
The cabin is adorable and cozy. It suits you perfectly. Easy to imagine you cozied up and writing away!
Merry Christmas to you and yours! Have a blessed holiday season.
Mary
Dear Mary, Welcome and thank you! It is a place of peace and inspiration and I’m so very grateful given my parents’ failing health and this season of life. Only God could have given this place. Thank you for the gift of your presence and being a kindred, faithful reading spirit! So happy to celebrate this season and another release with you!
Dear Mary, I am just seeing this but am delighted and apologize for missing it before! I am longing to return to being cozy and writing away. This is my busiest month and you know why :). Thank you for being such a blessing!
Just gorgeous!! I’l always fondly remember the time that I invited myself over to your house and not only did you have the joy of telling me how cozy we would be, but that I’d kick you out of your room! 😉 LOVE these pictures of your sweet cabin in KY. Sending love and hugs from my neck of the woods in CA and hoping that one of these years soon, we’ll get to swap a hug in person again!
I’m chuckling remembering that conversation/emailing back and forth! Our cabin is just as tiny as ever lol but we would STILL welcome you with open arms!! However, I think your trip south with your sweet mom was much more on point and now we are celebrating that gorgeous book cover that is the wrapping for this Appalachian tale! Bound for my keeper shelf, I’m sure :). Just like TLaTL! Hope and pray this Christmas is extra special for you and your littles who are getting big. Bless you for taking time here, dear Joanne. <3
