I’m reading Jocelyn Green’s WIDOW OF GETTYSBURG right now and she’s causing me to keep draining the battery in my flashlight… 😉 Staying up late at night because it’s hard to put down! I love her writing style, its so lyrical and even at times, brave. Just loving it.
Oh, love the ‘brave’ summation, Joanne – and that draining battery! I love that last hero of hers :). But I have a thing for great heroes. It’s so neat she went to Gettysburg recently for that book event. If only you and I could have hopped over from St. Lou to PA! We’ll have our day, the 3 of us, or so I hope, someday. Maybe a get together at ACFW. Enjoy every page. That one was a pleasure to endorse, just like yours, my friend. Counting down till our swap, lol!
I just finished (literally like 10mins ago!) “A Distant Melody” by Sarah Sundin. I couldn’t put it down! It’s almost 5am here and I haven’t been to sleep yet because I had to keep turning the pages lol. First book in a while that’s kept me turning pages in the wee hours of the morning. Loved it! Think I will download her next book in the series to read next!
YAY! So happy you’ve met Sarah, Eva :)! Isn’t her research amazing?! And her covers are so unique and memorable. She’s a friend of mine and we traveled together to an event in California awhile back. She’s a keeper and so are her books! I hope it’s sunny over there – and that your wee ones are having a blessed summer!
I would love to have your TBR pile. It sounds amazing! I am reading MaryAnn Minatra’s The Masterpiece, it is the second in a Civil War series. Next up is Against the Tide by Elizabeth Camden.
Score, Stacey! The Masterpiece is new to me but what a beautiful title – it evokes all kinds of images! And love the Civil War setting. Reminds me of Jocelyn Green’s historicals. We’re true kindred spirits because up next for me (I hope) is Against the Tide, too. Love that cover :)!

Hmmm, I’m reading Lori Benton’s Burning Sky, again. A craft book from MBT. Jesus Calling. My journal from my trip. And I have about 10 books in my TBR pile. Any day now, I’ll be checking the mail for the ARC of My Hope is Found and when it comes?!?!?! The world itself can fall out of orbit.
And a few history books about Dine’/Navajo history and their relationship with US Army.
Any other ARCs that come my way will be read with kind, gentle eyes and lots of love and affection…IN CASE YOU’RE CURIOUS.

Oh Jennifer, I love that kind, gentle eyes and lots of affection! I always get the book jitters when a new one releases and this is so VASTLY different than Love’s Reckoning. But no spoilers lest I say too much. Will just wait for the verdict, lol… COUGH. HINT. INDEED!
I’m thrilled you kept a journal on your trip. Lori’s book is awesome and well worth reading again and again as you’ve discovered. My husband is going to read that next :). It’s sitting by his reading chair right now. And you’re so right about all that orbit business when MHIS arrives. It’s the only one I haven’t read beforehand and I’m crazy to get it! Joanne and I are going to do a little swappy thingy when the time comes :).
Research always rules, that’s for sure so it’s no surprise to see that on your reading list. Speaking of which I must get back to mine!

Sally, I never have to worry about your and your reading, lol, as you always seem a step ahead of me and give me some great ideas. Love Meg’s cover for that one 🙂 – and I’m ashamed to say I’ve never read a K Heitzmann book till now. I met her at ICRS and she’s so very nice. And looks so young – too young to be a grand!

For ACFW? No! I need more time! Writing, writing, writing. Still love my book, though. That’s always a good thing. Are you working on book 3 in the Ballantyne Legacy or has that already been turned in?
Yep, book 3, due end of NEXT MONTH! Madly editing and polishing though it’s been done since April. I’ve begun to enjoy editing the more I do it. Nothing quite like the thrill of that first draft though… Thrilled you love that story of yours. Always a very, very good sign! I’m cheering for you already!
Aw, thanks, Laura. I love the editing stage! I was almost fearful to go back to the creating stage last year, but I had a ball. I’m learning I like wherever I’m at–and I’m thankful for that!

Just finished Stealing the Preacher and have started into Love at any Cost by Julie Lessman. Only got through 1 chapter last night…

Just finished Marie Bostwick’s “Between Heaven and Texas” and starting Tracie Peterson’s “The Icecutter’s Daughter”. Good summer reading.
Phyllis, Good summer reading indeed :). I will have to look up BHAT as that sounds so intriguing. Love anything with a Texas setting. And “The Icecutter’s Daughter” is on my list, too. There were/are a plethora of “daughter” books and I’m glad mine is one of them! I really like that sort of title. Bless you for taking time to give share book ideas here!
I am currently reading, “Lion in the Valley” by Elizabeth Peters. It is the 4th book in the Amelia Peabody series. Her books are so entertaining, I love this series. They are mysteries set in the Victorian times, and they are hysterical.
Also, I wanted to let you know that my brother passed away on Sunday night. Thank you for praying for him, and thanks to your readers who did as well! I appreciate it!
Emma, My heart goes out to you and your family in a huge way. Thank you for sharing that here. So thankful that we can be with loved ones in eternity – those in the family of God never truly leave us. I’ll continue to pray for your brother’s wife and daughter (and everyone involved). One of my favorite uncles lost his wife to the same and they had a young son. IT’s been a few years now but I remember it well.

I just finished Moonlight Masquerade by Ruth Axtell. A very enjoyable read. I’m currently trying to decide what’s next on the list… Will probably pick up Love in Disguise by Carol Cox as I just got that one from the library 🙂
Leah, I want your bookshelf :)! Love Ruth’s cover and that one is on my list. I’m getting into Regency’s now and it’s a real treat. Love Julie Klassen and Sarah E. Ladd. Have you seen Carol Cox’s newest cover – wow! It’s just delightful right down to the heroine’s expression. Love those library books – I’ve worn my card right out :)!

I am reading Catherine Marshall’s Christy. I have read this treasured book in my collection many times. My dear maternal grandmother gave me a copy back in the 80’s. She explained it was one of her favorite books. My grandmother has since passed away, and I am missing her badly right now so I pulled out Christy. My way of connecting with her; Christy is a book we both loved. My grandmother and I had many sweet conversations about this book’s characters…especially Christy and Dr. Neil MacNeill. :)I guess the hopeless romantic gene came from my grandmother. By the way, I can’t wait for your new book release in September. I have read and love all of your books. Many blessings to you!
Raquel! We’re kindred spirit Christy fans, I guess! I have an old copy of it on my keeper shelf and every time I read it it seems fresh to me as I see things I didn’t before. Maybe it’s the same with you, too. It’s a wonderful thing to have that special connection with your grandmother. I’m sure she’d be touched to read your words here. I’m reading another Catherine Marshall book right now given to me by a dear friend called Beyond Ourselves. I almost love her nonfic as much as her fiction. I loved Julie, too, but Christy will always be first to me.
I’m thinking I probably have a little of that hopeless romantic gene, too. That must be why I keep writing these romantic books and heroes ;). I can’t wait for you to meet Jack. Hi Laura 🙂 I just finished Stepping Heavenward by Elizabeth Prentiss. I had started it so long ago but it kept getting pushed aside, which oddly enough isn’t a reflection on what I thought of the book because I loved it!! I think life just gets in the way sometimes and it’s been a bit hard to find quiet time to read in… But I finally finished it a few days ago and it truly is a beautiful book. It’s definitely a keeper-shelf read, one to revisit that will grow with you and bless you in a new way every time you read it – kind of like Hinds Feet On High Places by Hannah Hurnard.
Next? I’m undecided if I want to start Shadow of the Almighty by Elisabeth Elliot or As America Has Done to Israel by John McTernan. The latter is a book my brother got a few months ago and the title alone intrigues me so much…
And I am DEFINITELY going to be starting our incredibly sweet and fabulously talented dear friend, Amber Stokes, debut novel, Bleeding Heart!!! Gosh, I am so proud of that girl!! I had the honor and privilege of reading her “first” novel Forget Me Not – which was amazing and I hope she gets a chance to publish that someday, too! I read the first chapter of Bleeding Heart a while back and I loved it so I’m VERY excited to go from start to finish with this sure to be wonderful story!

Amanda, I think you’d make a wonderful missionary or preacher’s wife (which I’ve told you before but it bears repeating again :). Your heart for these things shows in your comments. I have an old copy of SH along with Hannah Whitall Smith’s The Christian’s Secret of a Happy Life which you’re probably familiar with, too. Both gems. Sometimes I don’t think we’ll ever surpass those old time saints in terms of thought or depth. And HFOHP by H Hurnard is also rich, too, yes. I like being reminded of these as I go dig them up again – usually just when I need them! Right now dear Julie Lessman sent me a copy of Catherine Marshall’s Beyond Ourselves. The title is so fitting and the content so timely for me. I think that book getting pushed aside was no accident as it probably appeared just when you’d soak up the most from it. At least that’s how it happens for me… Pls let us know how you like Elisabeth’s and John’s books! I read one of hers years ago on purity (can’t remember the title right now) but it was very thought provoking.
YES, Amber’s debut is very well done. Am sure you’ll fall into those pages and not want to come out! Love the title and also Forget Me Not. I thought you and she had a reading/critique partnership :).

A recent read was Gone South by Meg Moseley. My current read is Iscariot by Tosca Lee, and up next I plan on reading Undeniably Yours by Becky Wade & The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery – you have it listed as a fave & so many of my Goodreads friends are recommending, so it’s time! 🙂

Beth, So thrilled you’re going to read TBC, my all time favorite by Montgomery’s. Would love to know what you think when you’re through! She does some interesting things in that novel. It’s been described as satire or somewhat morose but I think it’s magical and hope you do, too. I need to read Meg – love the Gone South cover – and Tosca is an amazing writer. I just finished reading the “Haflings” trilogy by Heather Burch, which was very interesting. The last book was my favorite. 🙂 Oh, and I recently read Mistaken by Karen Barnett, which was wonderful!! Loved it.
I’m currently reading The Quarryman’s Bride by Tracie Peterson, which I’m planning on reviewing Monday for “The Borrowed Book” – hoping I can get through it in time! I’m also reading Blackmoore by Julianne Donaldson via NetGalley, and Anomaly by Krista McGee…not to mention a couple of other books I probably should have read and reviewed a while ago. *blushing*
Looking forward to starting Burning Sky by Lori Benton, Doon by Carey Corp and Lori Langdon, Dragonwitch by Anne Elisabeth Stengl, and several others that should be reviewed soon… So many great books to read, so little time! *sigh* You should see my various stacks, boxes, and shelves of books, not to mention my Kindle books! I’m blessed, albeit perhaps a bit obsessed. 😉
