I’m preparing for the annual birthday tea for dear George which takes place Saturday, February 22, at the replica of Mt. Vernon right here in my neck of the woods. The George Washington Inn is owned by Dan and Janet Abbott who are as hospitable and gracious as can be. They’re also devoted Washington fans and have guest rooms with a view of the ocean instead of the Potomac. Truly a spectacular place – even George himself would be impressed!
I always take my mom, shown with our reenactor friend above, and we spend a few hours celebrating. I had visions of donning stays and squeezing into my 18th-century dress but will save that for another day…
Happy 282nd birthday, George!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Did you attend this last year as well? For some reason, I seem to remember a post about it before. I hope you have a lovely time!
I started a reading a book you might have heard of…it is called Love’s Awakening and it written by an absolutely lovely lady and gifted writer. I am not very far into it, but by the end of the first chapter I was kicking myself for not starting it sooner. You have such a way with words! I didn’t realize how much I missed your writing until I started. I pray that the Lord gives you many more fruitful years of writing and many more books for my enjoyment…hehe 🙂
Emma, You have a good memory! YES, we did attend last year and had a great time. This is our 3rd year, I think. I always wear the blue coat so these pics all look the same ;).
And I’m so thrilled you’ve met Ellie and Jack! I didn’t realize you hadn’t read it but given your busy schedule I can see why! I sometimes save my favorite books to read for months when I feel I can really devote time to them. Anticipation is half the pleasure :). And I so hope LA is that for you. You inspire me to write on!! Thanks so much for your encouraging heart .
Hi, Laura!!
Thanks for the beautiful pics – would love to be there sharing tea with you!! I love EVERYTHING about a tea, and enjoy attending teas ANYWHERE I go!! Would love to spend the night at the inn, also – a room looking out over the ocean, please – or reading a book, with a cup of tea nearby (some dainty snacks would make it even more perfect), on the veranda/deck etc. overlooking the ocean and listening to the waves!! What could be more perfect and inviting??
I’m sure your mother enjoys attending the tea with you every year – does she live in Washington, also?? Have fun, the food looks delish – the table décor inviting, and the inn is beautiful!!
Bonnie, oh my, so sorry I’m late here! Had a spam attack and these beautiful comments were buried and I’m only just now digging them out! You’re a gem for your gracious comments, as always. I so wish I could take you to tea at Locust Grove and we could sit under those big trees and overlook the gardens and river. But the ocean and sea breeze here might appeal to you mightily as it would be a change of scene :).
Yes, Mom moved out here a couple of years ago from Berea, KY. It has been a hard move for her in many ways as she lived her life in Berea and had to leave so much behind. This is our girly event of the year, I guess. Trouble is, I could do this every weekend! But then the uniqueness would fade.
Here’s hoping you have some warm weather your way – I heard spring has sprung there for you and I pray it stays!
Is this Inn in Port Angeles,WA? We saw one like this when on Olympic Peninsula this past summer. They had a small lavender farm and store, where I purchased some lavender soaps. Love that part of the world!
Sharon, Forgive me for being late to reply – your comment and others are buried beneath a spam avalanche! YES, this is indeed the same place. So neat you were here! The store is out front with the lavender fields, before the circular drive leading to the house. Truly an amazing place – but guess I don’t have to tell you that :)! Their lavender soap is a favorite as well a their teas and lavender sugar and such. So glad you enjoy this part of the world. I’d love to bump into you some time!
Laura,
I always look forward to these pictures. Would love to go to something like this with my mother & daughter. Hope you’ll have pictures up from this year. Love those tablecloths and settings. Thought of you today as we’re reading lots of 18th century and Native American books lately. Loving Sign of the Beaver with my kiddos!
Julia, So happy to see you as always – and learn you’re into some great reading :). I will have to check out SOTB. I just ordered quite a few vintage children’s books on the frontier and am getting excited to have them bless my mailbox. You’ve added another must read title to my list. Thank you!
I can just imagine you taking your little miss out for tea in future. I think being a mother of a girl a splendid thing. Especially if she happens to have red hair!
WAHT?
WHAT?
That’s better…
I cannot begin to explain the envy I feel for being THAT CLOSE to home!!
And you look like you’re having so much FUN!!!
I hope you enjoyed your tea.
Tea was delightful and that uniform was even better! Felt like Colonel McLinn was up close and personal :). The only way tea might have been better is if you had been there, Jennifer.
But I hear you might be headed my way! Hope so!
