There was so much buzz about starting 2013 in a God-centered way during that last giveaway I thought we’d begin the new year with another. Dear friends and fellow authors, Diane Stortz and Liz Curtis Higgs, have 2 stellar books which I promised to help promote (though they hardly need the help!). So here ’tis…
I finished taking a walk with Ruth and the God who rocked her world in November – yours will be rocked, too:)
This year I’m looking forward to reading the Bible Diane’s way. Love what she said in the back cover copy: “I didn’t start to really know God until I made knowing Him my goal as I read the Bible. Getting to know God changed me. It changed how I think and what I do. It changes me still.”
And then there’s my personal favorite sitting by my writing chair by Sarah Young…
If you’d like to be in the drawing for any of these books, please leave a comment and your email. I’ll post three winners this coming Sunday, January 6.
Thanks…and Happy New Year!
My sister is reading Jesus Calling and my mom is doing a study by Liz Curtis Higgs, but I don’t think it’s this one. They all look wonderful. Happy New Year!
Hmmm, this reply feature continues to elude me…
Jessica, Happy New Year to you:) You can’t go wrong with Liz or Sarah ~ glad your sis and mom are in good company. I’d love to send you one of these!
They all sound great! I would love to be entered in the drawing. Happy New Year, Laura!!
Happy New Year to you, dear Stacey! You’re in, my friend:)
Liz Higgs’ book looks to be just what I’ve been looking for so thanks for promoting it. As to Jesus Calling, it’s my favorite devotional that remains “fresh”, day by day, year by year. I Christmas gifted your most recent book (thanks for the recommendation Sandy Frykholm) to my goddaughter Moriah in Nebraska, but she’s finishing a book for English class so her older sister is reading it first and enjoying it. They have at least one other of yours and no doubt will get the next in the series for Christmas next year. (oops, spoiler)
Jane, Wonderful to find another Jesus Calling devotee here:) You’re going to really like Liz’s take on Ruth and Boaz. What a hero he is! And I can’t thank you enough – and dear Sandy! – for the gift of your gifting your Moriah and her sis with my latest. So honored by that. LOL about the spoiler. Sounds good to me! Thanks so much for stopping and taking part in the giveaways!
Please don’t enter me in the drawing, as I have Jesus Calling and it’s my main go-to right now. 🙂 But, I wanted to say how it warms my heart that you’re doing such a giveaway. I pray God sends these to just the right people. I know He will!
Amy, You have such a beautiful heart/way with words – and you’re very savvy about why I’m doing this:) Love your wish that God will send them to the right people. YES!
Now when I read JC each morning I’ll think of you and it will be a double blessing:)
I borrowed The Girl’s Still Got It from the library and I loved it! It was a wonderful read, and I would highly recommend it! I really want to read Jesus Calling! I haven’t heard of the other book, but if you recommend it, I am sure it is wonderful. I would love to win any of the books!
I hope you have a wonderful New Year, Laura! One filled with love, hope, joy, and many blessings!

Emma, YAY, you’re ready to roll with another one after Liz:) Always a good sign! You’re in the hat, sis! Thanks!
I also read Liz’s book in November after I was blessed to not only hear her speak at the Among Friends Conference but I was able to get her to sign my copy of The Girl’s still Got it. It is truly a great book. I am looking forward to checking out the other books.
Carissa, Oh, sis, you’re in Liz’s territory, that’s for sure:) So glad you connected that way. Doesn’t she just light up the room in person? I feel that through the pages of her books, too. Holy stuff:)
Great to start the new year off with you! I nearly added Liz’s RISE AND SHINE to this little stack here but had to draw the line somewhere. I do highly recc. it if you haven’t heard of it. The story therein of her radio days with shock jock Howard Stern is truly memorable. How far she has come and how amazing her ministry…:)
I just ordered Jesus Calling last night, and it should arrive tomorrow. I finished Streams in the Desert and was looking about for a new daily devotional, and remembered how often you’ve mentioned or quoted from JC. So, can’t wait to catch up on my January days when it arrives.
Lori, So glad you’re starting the year off with JC. I think it’s so valuable for us as writers as she talks so much about focus and peace, something that can get lost in our world. But her message is so sweeping and Biblical that it holds something for everyone who takes time for it. I finished Streams, too, and also Springs and miss them. Will probably circle round to them again one day…
And thanks so much to you for your very kind comments on the Books&Such blog. I feel the same way about your work and can hardly wait till your debut!
Laura, you have such a kind and giving spirit. 🙂 Bless you for all the giveaways you do!
As I mentioned to you on facebook, I just downloaded JC for my kindle. I’ve read the Jan. 1 and Jan. 2 entries, and oh my goodness!!! The January 1 entry brought tears to my eyes. I just know I’m going to love it.
I borrowed LCH book from the library back in the fall, just wonderful. I’ve not heard of the Diane Stortz book though, it looks great.
Please enter me for either the LCH or Diane Stortz books.
Oh, and Happy New Year!!
Michelle, It’s so easy to be giving with readers like you. Publishing has given me so much that it’s a joy and privilege to give back. Always. Thx so much for saying such things:)
My impression of those first devotional readings were the same as yours. Just. Blown. Away. Feels like they were written personally for you just where you are that very day.
Thx for the entry:) Will be fun going through the year with you this way, esp with Diane’s as we’ll both be on the same page there.
Missing you and KY tonight, my friend!
I can’t wait to read Jesus calling! I’ve read some great excerpts from it!!
marissamehresman(at)aol(dot)com
YAY, Marissa! You’re gonna love the whole deal:) Thx for being here and starting off the year right!
Laura, all of these books sound wonderful. I would love to be entered into the drawing and thank you for the opportunity. Have a great day, my friend! 🙂
bookwarp(at)gmail(dot)com
You, too, Angi – glad you’re IN:) Thinking of you and hoping you and yours are well!
Happy New Year, Laura! All of these books look wonderful. I haven’t had the privilege of hearing or meeting Liz in person, but I’ve heard so many incredible things about her. Thanks for hosting another giveaway!
Gabrielle, It just wouldn’t be the same without you:) Thanks for being so enthusiastic and encouraging always.
I’ve been thinking of you and am wishing you sunny skies down south when you go – southwest, anyway! Enjoy every minute. Well-deserved, my friend!
Laura,
I’ve not read either Liz’s or Diane’s books above, but I love Sarah’s book and have been so blessed by it. I’ve given it as a gift time and time again. This week, in fact, her Jesus Calling for Children is a majorly discounted download on Kindle, and I snatched it up. My 10-yr-old daughter and I are reading it together and I love it!
Hope this first week of 2013 have been stellar for you! The Lord is stretching our family – our oldest son just returned from Urbana and is preparing to go train with YWAM in a month or two. He’s had a heart for the orient – particularly China – for some time, but he came home broken in spirit (in a good way) by the call to go. My mommy-heart is a little weepy at the thought of sending him off, but I’m so thrilled to see the Spirit moving in his life this way.
Blessings, my friend,
Becky
Becky, Wow – love hearing about your son and his heart for missions. That is HUGE – and the bittersweet part is a requirement for us moms! I so understand. The Orient is one place I’ve not been though my nephew wants to go to Japan soon. China’s underground church has always fascinated me. Kind of covert, all of that. I’ll remember to pray for Him – and you, too. Your whole family as you make this big transition.
I didn’t know about JC for kids – thanks for that. I just found out this morning at Costco that she has a new one called HOPE CALLING (or something like that). Sounds like a keeper, too. Very touched that you and your daughter are doing that together on Kindle. God is so good:)
Niki F. emailed me and is now in the hat. Thanks, Niki! However comments come in are fine. Just keep them coming…:)
Happy New Year, Laura! Thank you for including me in the giveaway (though you don’t need to include me for Jesus Calling, as I already have that one. It’s wonderful!).
Love, Hugs, and Prayers,
Michelle
Hi Michelle – so good to begin another year with you. I’m beginning to see why Jesus Calling is the leading selling devotional in the world:) I feel I’m a little late to the party as it was first released in 2007 if I’m not mistaken.
Thanks for being here and taking part. You make it much more fun!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, DEAR LAURA!!!!!!!
I can’t believe we’re into another year already! The Lord has been so faithful and so merciful to let us see another year. For some reason it makes me think of that verse from Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, when it says, “How His kindness yet pursues me…” His kindness, love and mercy is continually pursuing us; I can really feel that, more than ever, this year.
I would love to read Jesus Calling! You’ve posted so many devotionals from that book, each blessing me so very much. Now wonder it’s a personal favorite 🙂 Thank you so much for a chance to win!
May the Lord abundantly bless you and yours this new year! May He answer your prayers and meet your every need, providing His sufficient grace and perfect peace to make it through every situation, accepting His will with all joy. And may His loving kindness pursue you all the days of your life. Amen 🙂
Blessings,
Amanda
With all joy:) AMEN. So well said, dear Amanda, any commentary from me is quite moot!
You’ve named one of my best loved hymns. YouTube has my favorite rendition by Paul Cardall. Can’t get enough of it. The violin is so, so exquisite. If you look you’ll see what I mean… And the story behind it is even better, straight out of the 18th-c:) The footage is great, too, snow scene and all that. It looks exactly like the road leading to my house…
I would love to send you Jesus Calling! Trouble with these giveaways is that I want to be Bill Gates, lol, so I can gift everyone with everything. Having one winner, or even 3, is so painful to me it hurts!
That said, it’s a true joy to start another year with you and see what is in store. You are set to do some wonderfully fulfilling things! And I get to watch:)
All three books sound wonderful, but I would really love to read The Girl’s Still Got It.
Hi Deborah, TGSGI is so worth it:) I didn’t want that one to end. Am hoping you feel the same, too! Thx for the thumbs up!
Phyllis S is IN, thanks to her email!
Laura…Happy New Year!!!
Thanks for sharing these wonderful books.
Hey Karen:) Happy 2013 to you. Thx for participating!
I haven’t had a chance to read/study any of these but I have heard great things about all of them!
Samantha, So good to see you again:) You’re in – and thanks!
Hi Laura! Just discovered your blog. Spoke with Bryte the other night and she was reading book #3 of yours. Can’t wait to read one soon.
I haven’t read any of the three books in your giveaway, so would love to be entered. I just came across God Calling which I remember reading when I was young and recently bought to give to my daughter.
I enjoyed so much meeting you on our Scotland trip. It was a pleasure getting to know you and I feel privileged to call you friend. Loved what Amanda said and I wish the same for you also.
I look forward to following you on your blog. Thanks for the giveaway and for being the special person you are!
Sarah! Oh joy! I’ve been thinking about you since we parted, wishing we could do the trip over again:) It was such a pleasure meeting you and Bryte and the other ladies. I’ve never known a group of women to get on so well together! I treasure the time we had at dinner that first night at Cameron House especially, sitting across the table from you.
Amanda has a way with words, doesn’t she? I keep telling her she needs to write a book – or create a blog! Thanks so much for your gracious words, too. They bless me and I’ll remember them. And I’m so happy you want to be in the giveaway! It’s really fun to start out fresh with great books like these. Trouble is, I want to give all 3 to every one of you!
Please thank Bryte for taking time for my books. I hope she enjoys them. And thanks for wanting to read them, too, as I know how busy you are.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Laura,
Thanks so much for offering these fabulous books! Jesus Calling looks wonderful! I took a glance at it on Amazon, and it reminds me of the book by Francis J. Roberts- Come Away My Beloved. I would love to entered into your drawings.
I really enjoy visiting your site. Thank you for sharing the pictures and clips from your Scotland journey.
Ashley, Welcome! Thanks for taking the time here. I’m still dreaming of Scotland:) Wishing myself back there but have to get back to work here!
Oh, so glad you told me about the Roberts book. Love the title. I’m going to go over and look that one up on Amazon, too. Am always on the look out for a good devo or non-fic title.
Thanks for being in the giveaways! Looking forward to seeing who the winners are tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend!
