Left Seattle on a rainy Saturday and arrived in Glasgow on a rainy Sunday…
My favorite spot (there were so many!) was right here by the fire at Cameron House on Loch Lomond…
After dinner that first night I took a cold walk. Felt like I was caught in the middle of a snow globe it was so beautiful…
The food was wonderful at every meal – salmon, haddock, duck, game hen, venison, even pigeon:) The Scots make the most amazing soups! Since I love to cook I hope to replicate them. The fare there seems very healthy. I think I ate a head of cabbage every day! And one too many sticky toffee puddings! Back to the pool for me…
There were lots of surprises in Scotland. I didn’t expect the country to be that different given we speak the same language. But different it is – and in such memorable ways…
Love haggis! And tattie scones…
Am completely mystified by Scottish plumbing!
Unsure about IRN-BRU…
Couldn’t get enough cups of tea!
There were so many charming place names and scenes at every turn. Roses were even blooming in the snow…
Here’s Teresa from Tennessee who is like a sister to me, waiting for the Pitlochry train to Edinburgh on a very raw day…
Of all the foreign cities I’ve been in, Edinburgh wins first place in my heart for myriad reasons…
Loved the Christmas markets, the carolers, the kilted men, the endless centuries-old buildings, the fact that Edinburgh is half a million people but is still so wonderfully walkable…
The city at sunset from Edinburgh Castle…
My last night in Edinburgh something remarkable happened, opening the door for me to return in May. Since my brother lives in Spain, I hope he can do a bit of traveling with me. I’m thinking of setting a series on the Isle of Skye. More about that later…
I DID sneak some things in my bags to share with you in a BOXING DAY GIVEAWAY December 26th. Hope you like them as much as I do:)
In the meantime, thanks so much for your thoughts, prayers, and emails while I was away! I’ve missed you and would love to know what you’ve been up to right here at home…
