I’m always excited to begin a new year with a new devotional. Years ago my mom read Streams in the Desert which may be my 2023 companion. I’m sad to say goodbye to New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp though happy to pass it on to my husband. Here are a few on my reading radar in this image. It would be wonderful to use them all!

Happy New Year!

I love a good love story. And the Bible has some beautiful ones. Recently I stumbled across this verse and don’t ever recall reading it before, at least not in the current version I’m attached to. The Amplified Bible is so rich and layered. Being a word lover, the more words the better. Being a romance writer, the more romantic the better, too!

I do believe this might be the most romantic Scripture in the entire Bible. Even better, I believe the Lord is speaking of His beloved church but more specifically, those of us who believe in Him and love Him. We are ‘the radiant bride.’ There can be no better happily ever after…

Joyfully the radiant bride turned to him, the one altogether lovely, the chief among ten thousand to her soul, and with unconcealed eagerness to begin her life of sweet companionship with him, she answered Make haste my beloved and come quickly like a gazelle or a young hart and take me to our waiting home upon the mountains of spices!

Song of Solomon 8:14, Amplified Bible
