Every once in a while a cover comes along that makes me pause, inhale, and wish that it was mine. In this case, an entire series! I’m usually drawn to cover art that reflects the century I love best – the 18th. Since I was small and watched that classic historical drama “Seven Brides for Seven Brothers,” anything bride-related makes me a bit giddy. I’m that much of a romantic, I guess…
The title for The Cumberland Bride is poetic and there are so many elements of this cover I love – the cameo and pearls, the fan and lace sleeves – and that epic backdrop of what would be the Wilderness Road into Kentucky given the story’s premise. I like headless heroines as they let the reader envision the character instead. This one is elegant and romantic and – well, I want that dress!
The colors of The Patriot Bride appeal to me, so much like a fall palette with the browns and golds and then those pearls and gloves and bit of lace. Notice her stance which is determined and hints of the heroine’s character, perhaps? The background is like vintage wallpaper, another plus for me. I could keep gushing! I especially like how the series title is set off decoratively with that lovely font and embellishment…
I’ve been hearing a lot of buzz about this series which should delight historical readers as the publisher, Barbour, is releasing a book every other month beginning in 2018. The Mayflower theme that ties them all together is quite intriguing. I, for one, am ordering based on the covers alone. But I’m sure each novel will be just as well done. Congrats to the authors for such an intriguing, beautifully wrapped series!
I’d love to know if you have a favorite here and why it appeals to you! Cover art truly is in the eye of the beholder:)

Beautiful covers! And… WOW!! I loved the movie Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!! LOL!!
Dear Jessica, I SO second all you just said :)! Maybe it’s time to dig Seven Brides for Seven Brothers out of the attic lol. A fine movie to begin autumn. Thanks so much for stopping by!
I’ve very excited for this series too! The covers are gorgeous!
Barbour has done a wonderful job with the My Heart Belongs…series.
Dear Andrea, Love your excitement – truly, Barbour has hit these historicals out of the park and the covers are proof as is that wonderfully intriguing Mayflower hook/theme. I need to take a closer look at all their series including the one you mention. All are so popular and the covers and ideas of tying those to a setting are just as remarkable. Happy first day of fall to you and yours!
I wish we could see the front of the green dress on The Pirate Bride, but the lacing on the neck and sleeves are very pretty as well as the clasp on the pearl necklace. The Cumberland Bride dress is my favorite and the cameo is beautiful. I also love the model’s braid on The Captive Bride and again the necklace is so pretty. Thank you for sharing these book covers with us. Excited to read each of these brides stories.
ASIDE: Saw you on Julie Lessman’s website and the video you did with her. Looking good, Laura! Looking good!!!
Dear Amy, Your last comment made me laugh! So many bloopers occurred in that short vid but your gracious heart didn’t mind!! And I am totally with you on seeing more of that green dress on TPB. I’d love a panoramic view of all these. You notice the best details like that clasp on the necklace, cameo, etc. I’d love a behind the scenes look at who designed these as they’re truly remarkable. Fun to anticipate a book every other month beginning 2018! Maybe I’ll start a journal book club here and we can kick off The Mayflower Bride together ๐
I actually love the “Cumberland Bride” as well, for all the same reasons. The lines of the design are gorgeous and I love pearls and cameos.
So is this a novella collection?
Dear Rebecca, So funny that several of us have zeroed in on the Cumberland cover :). Great news – these are full length novels! Though they do look like a novella collection. I’m amazed by the fact they’ll release every other month. That satisfies the most bookish among us ๐ Bless you for being here. Love coming over to your comments!
Lovely group of books! It looks like my book collection will grow with this bunch! I also zone in on covers and have bought countless books solely based on that! Fortunately the writing is usually great as well! ๐
Looking forward to the Scottish story you mention in your ‘Autumn Again’ writing. Love that place for a setting!
Love that you’re turned to all things Scots, Beth. I just typed THE END this afternoon ahead and I love the ending! Now for titling and beginning of cover art. Speaking of cover art, if you have any ideas or trends you think worth mentioning, I’m all ears (and eyes)! Bless you for being here!
I have to say out of all these titles the one that I am most looking forward to reading is the Cumberland Bride.
Me, too, Carissa! Must be that peek of the Wilderness Road in the background:)
I’m a little behind in commenting but my eye went immediately to The Captured Bride. The simple homespun look with the messy braid over the shoulder. I never was one for fancy and am most comfortable in jeans and a tshirt.
I just love this cover though. Might have to check out these books soon.
Never behind, Cindy! In fact, I’m probably behind in answering as WordPress no longer notifies me of comments. Mercy! Like you, TCB was the first cover I saw and believe it or not, I just finished chapter 3 tonight as the author asked me to read it ahead of print:) It’s so good – Michelle really has a way with words. I can’t believe this series gives us a book every other month. How fun is that!? Bless you as you finish what I know is a busy week on your end!
Hi!
Eagerly waiting to read these! I love the Patriot cover as well. I love fall and browns/golds. The confident stance also appeals to me. ๐
I find I like the Captured cover as well. I wear my hair in a braid, too and I guess that adds to the intrigue for me! ๐
Really enjoying The Lacemaker! Iโm making myself not rush through it so I can savor the reading. I have a copy on its way to my dad as well. He loves hearing you have a new book out! Heโs a dairy farmer, just turned 69, and soon to be laid up with a knee replacement. He needs to be surrounded by reading material and your book will be on his stack! ๐
Dear Beth, Your comments here are like dessert! Thank you for coming by and mutually admiring our next heroine ๐ and also for the Lacemaker sharing! What a thoughtful daughter you are. And I can’t tell you how much it means that your dad enjoys my books! Lifting him up as he has surgery and praying for a complete recovery so he’s good as new and back on his feet in no time. My dad was the oldest of 10 on a tobacco and dairy farm so I have vivid memories of when they changed to automatic milkers in those big barns and the smell of raw milk, hay, and manure ๐ We raised our boys on raw milk so are big fans of your dad and dairy farmers. I hope he enjoys the story like you. Please keep in touch!
Hi!
Your words raw milk, hay and manure really bring back the smells of growing up on the farm! ๐ Lots of memories there! I think itโs great that your boys were raised on good old farm milk…nothing quite like it!
Thank you so much for thoughts and prayers for my dad! Heโs chomping at the bit for a surgery date which was pushed back due to finding a bone chip behind his knee which is causing pain and has to be removed prior to the knee replacement, if he still needs it after that procedure. To him, spring is coming and heโs anxious to be recovered for planting season, one of his favorite times.
My dad is also the oldest of 10 children, nine surviving! Farming is in his blood and I pray he can keep going as long as he wishes to! He reads every night after his long days. Thanks again for your words and wishes! Means a lot!
Dear Beth, It just dawned on me that this is the last month of winter so understand your dad’s anticipation of being on his feet again and back out in the field where he belongs! So sorry about that postponed surgery. Praying it goes off soon without a hitch and he recuperates so fast his doctors are stunned. I always pray big prayers, or try to. God is so good at exceeding our expectations! So interesting your dad is the oldest of 10 like mine. Those big farm families! We’ve lost 2 of the 10. Hope this winter is winding up well for you. Thank you for taking time here!
