The Last 10 Books I Read

Each book I read benefits my writing in some way. It inspires me. It helps me think outside the box. Or perhaps it helps me grasp the many different, beautiful ways to use words. And all this I can do by curling up with a good book!

Here’s a list of the last ten books I read (in no particular order!).

1) Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate
Wingate is a master in the time-slip genre (which I also write) and I enjoyed studying how she connected both contemporary and historical stories in such a flawless manner.

2) American Tempest: How the Boston Tea Party Sparked A Revolution by Harlow Giles Unger
Research reading for a novel I’m currently writing. Very helpful!

3) Life After by Katie Ganshert
An amazing story that explores the reality of evil alongside the reality of a God who comforts. Love this author’s voice and her ability to tackle tough subjects.

4) Perennials by Julie Cantrell
Whatever Julie writes, I will read. The way she uses language is breathtaking. A beautiful story about facing our pasts.

5) Until We Find Home by Cathy Gohlke
A fascinating look into the plight of refugee children in WWII. I appreciated Cathy’s deep writing and skill in managing many viewpoints successfully in this fictional novel.

6) Defiance of the Patriots: The Boston Tea Party and the Making of America by Benjamin L. Carp
Another great research read! Very complete with tons of real-life historical characters and events to inspire a soon-to-be written story. 

7) My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
A story that kept me guessing until the end and stretched my own creativity.

8) The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz
A super-talented author writing in one of my favorite time periods. The American Revolution, spies, romance…and an ending that will have you on the edge of your seat. Loved this one!

9) How Sweet The Sound by Amy K. Sorrells
I was in awe of how this author drew hope out of the dark circumstances in this story set in the south. A beautiful coming-of-age novel.

10) The Air We Breathe by Christa Parrish
Christa’s characters are dynamic, powerful, and inspiring. No predictability here—only solid, beautiful storytelling that will take you on an unforgettable journey.
